Ready. Set. Write! 2015 {Week 1}

Hey lovers. Just gonna dive right in here:

1. How I did on last week's goals:

Get up at 5:30 every weekday to work for a couple hours before the peanut wakes up.
Um, I think I did this most days? I can't remember. I need to be better at keeping track of this--and I can say for certain Elodie texting me in the am was SUPER helpful.

Continue researching for--and add 5-10k to--RS.
I did a *lot* of research, but came just shy of 5000 new words. Sigh. I'd hoped my goal was aiming low. Especially as this week will be low again because I'll be out of town this weekend...

Beta for Elodie!
I started reading this novella--and it is good, y'all. Like be jealous I'm reading it before you good. :)

Take my daughter someplace fun!
Went to a winery which was fun for both of us, hehe. Also, we set up some fun water toys in our back yard and she had a freaking blast. Maybe it's cheating because it's not going someplace new, but I'm counting it anyway because it's so fun for her.

2. My goals for this week:
Get up at 5:30 every weekday to work for a couple hours before the peanut wakes up.
Continue researching for--and add 3-5k to--RS.
More marketing setup for Truth & Temptation.
Finish betaing for Elodie!
Take my daughter someplace fun!

3. A favorite line from my story: A moment my heroine and her hero run into each other at the grocery store and, of course, get into it. Because they hate each other. Well, she loves him, but she pretends she hates him because it's easier to deal with what he feels for her...

"You have no idea what I think," he said.
"Yeah? So you don't think I'm a lying, manipulative bitch who almost ruined your life?"
"Okay. You have some idea of what I think." His eyes flashed. Humor? Irritation? She couldn't be sure her hope for the former wasn't disguising the latter.

4. Biggest challenge I faced this week:
Ugh. This story ripped through me at first and now I'm hitting a wall. Walls are very common for me when I'm working through the middle of a book, but I'm still very much in the beginning, and it's really frustrating me. Even my "favorite" lines above from my WIP? I don't love them. I just kinda Russian roulette-ed it and skimmed for the least sucky lines from the past week. #pitypartyforone

I focused a lot on launch things for Truth & Temptation, so I'm hoping my divided focus had something to do with the stall on my WIP, but...idk.

5. Something I love about my WIP
The good news is I *do* still love my WIP. I just have to funnel that love into ability to move forward. The thing I REALLY love right now is how much fun third POV is to write. I've written first for years and years, so I was nervous about switching. But this? This makes me never, ever want to go back to first...

So glad texting you in the AM is helping :) But I think it's those pictures of Ryan Gosling :P Those pictures of K are adorable but that's because K is adorable...so you know, it makes sense :)
And you have no idea (you have some idea since I panicked on you yesterday) how relieved I am that you're enjoying A SUMMER LIKE NO OTHER! Thank you so much for reading!
Oh and those lines? They're pretty awesome! They definitely are not sucky...so maybe, it's also about perception, since you've said you were so busy with T&T. YOU. CAN. DO. IT!!!

GAHHHHH - your peanut is ADORABLE. LOVE the hair! Also, I have to show you a pic of McKenzie at that age. She and K could almost pass for twins.

And walls suck. I usually get stuck around the middle too, but it's not uncommon for me to get stuck in the beginning, at the end...everywhere. :/ But the love is important. As is pushing through. You've got this, woman. Keep doing what you're doing!

And agreed with Elodie about the lines. They are VERY awesome. And I love that you're writing 3rd person! I toyed with that with MB. So anxious to see this new one, so yanno - keep writing!

Hope you have a great week!

Sounds like you did pretty darn well and have everything planned out to keep it up! You can do this! Cute photos playing in the water during the summer is just about perfect.

Great job on those goals from last week. Your daughter is a cutie by the way!

ZOMG your daughter is SOOOO cute! I love that you’ve added a goal to take her somewhere fun every week. It’s so easy to fall into a boring routine with little ones. I’m trying to do the same thing all summer long, we’ll see how long it sticks… ;) Good luck on your goals this week!

I absolutely 100% hear you on hitting a wall with your writing. I have a WiP in the drafting stages that I was SOOOO motivated and inspired to work on, but then I hit a wall not all that far in. I have no answers, but I hope we're both able to knock that freaking wall down. Good luck this week! Ping me if you're writing during the day. I'm going to try my hardest to be disciplined with my writing this week!

love that line, definitely has me intrigued. I don't blame you for not waking up at the butt crack on dawn! And being just shy of 5k is incredible in my book! Glad you had fun with your adorable daughter!

Your little girl is SO precious! Thanks for sharing snapshots of her :) As for almost making 5k--that is amazing! We definitely don't think you should beat yourself up about not making that goal all the way. Going to a winery is ALWAYS fun, btw. Good luck meeting your goals this week.

I've never tried 3rd before... I'm a little scared to! ;)

Man, I keep reading everyone's exercising goals and it's making me want to get off my butt and get on the treadmill!

Your daughter is such a cutie! Have a great week. :)

Oh my gosh -- K looks so adorable in her little pool! And her hair suddenly looks so long. Do you feel like she's looking more like a kid than a baby these days? So bittersweet! Best of luck with those goals this week, lady! Speaking of beta reading awesome things, I've been doing lots of that, too. :-)

What a cutie! I think the best part about summer is being able to let the kids play in water and it's the highlight of their day! No expensive outings required! Enjoy your week. =)

Playing in any kind of water is fun for kids! We washed our cars this weekend and my kids had a blast just getting hit with the hose stream, sometimes it's the little things that are the most fun and memorable! Here's to having a great week!

I think I find beginnings harder than the middle, so I get hitting that wall early. That's so frustrating though. And you're lines are great even if this was a tough writing week! Hope it's smooth sailing this week and that you fly past that wall!

Your daughter is so cute! She looks like she had a lot of fun. And I usually only write in first person too, so when I decided my wip needed to be in third and not first I was scared out of my mind. But it is fun! Third gives you so much more freedom and you don't have to worry about voice as much as you do with first person.

And I love the lines you shared! So much tension in that one little scene. Just the kind of stories I like to read. Good luck with this week!

Your daughter is such a cutie. Love the curls!!!
Gook luck climbing over the wall. Can't wait for your next book!

I've written exclusively third-person for over 20 years, except for short first-person interludes like a letter, op-ed, note, or journal entry. I honestly don't think I'd know how to write first-person if I attempted it again so many years later.

I know the feeling of suddenly hitting a wall, even when so much of the story came bursting forth so effortlessly. I hit a wall a couple of times with my most recently finished book, since it was just so long and I was kind of getting sick of still working with these characters and storylines.

The wee one just keeps getting cuter and cuter. And she was probably the cutest baby I've ever seen. I love that each week you're taking her somewhere fun. Hopefully you can keep that up as she grows.

So, first, a major round of applause for getting up in the middle of the night to write. That's 100 percent dedication. And insanity. ;)

Let me know when you'll be working at night. Let's team up again to crack our whips at each other. But in, like, non-physically threatening ways.

Good luck with this week's goals. I love hate-to-love romances, so this sounds right up my alley. :)
